LCOE staff hosts Mental Health and Wellness Day at Big Valley School

At Big Valley School, a small but tight-knit group of approximately 40 students from grades 7 through 12 gathered for a day dedicated to mental wellness and community building.

The morning focused on the critical pillars of depression awareness, providing students with the language to identify mental health challenges and the practical tools needed to support themselves or a friend in crisis.

These sessions were paired with actionable self-care strategies, empowering students to prioritize their emotional well-being alongside their academics.

The conversation then shifted to the concept of Belonging. In collaborative groups, students explored how feeling connected, or isolated, deeply impacts their daily lives, from their ability to succeed in the classroom to the quality of their social experiences.

This honest dialogue highlighted the importance of a supportive school culture where every student feels seen. To wrap up the day, the group headed outside for a high-energy game of Z Tag, offering a much-needed physical release to balance the morning’s heavy mental lifting.
