Lassen High School’s Dowan Stephens, a star running back for the LHS Grizzlies, will attend Simpson College on a 4-year scholarship.
Stephens signed a letter of intent surrounded by his family friends, coaches and fellow players Thursday, April 16 at Lassen High School.
Known for his deep faith, Stephens plans to major in Biblical Studies and plans for a pastor’s mission in his future.
Stephens was named the Northern Athletic League’s Most Valuable Player, the MaxPreps Offensive Player of the Year and earned four Player of the Game awards from MaxPreps.
He played in 12 games his senior year, gaining an average of 7.5 yards per carry (193 carries for 1,448 yards), averaging 120.7 yards per game, and scored 29 touchdowns to lead the section. His longest carry was 78 yards, and he gained more than 100 yards in eight different games.
He also made four receptions for 56 yards (averaging 14 yards per reception during his senior year).
He joined the freshman team in 2022, and moved up to junior varsity that same year. He played on the JV team in 2023, and spent his junior and senior years on the varsity team.
