Caltrans begins preliminary work on Chester Causeway rehabilitation project
Caltrans began preliminary tree work for the Chester Causeway Rehabilitation Project along Highway 36, in Lassen and Plumas counties.
Highway 36 near Chester.The project is located at multiple locations from Melissa Avenue in Chester to just east of Red River Canal in Westwood.
The purpose of the project is to rehabilitate the pavement along Highway 36 in Plumas and Lassen counties. This will be accomplished by reconstructing the full depth of the existing roadway along some portions while widening the shoulders to eight feet. In other locations the project will mill and overlay the roadway and widen shoulders to four feet. Other parts of the project will include guardrail replacement, culvert work, rumble strips and signage.
Traffic impact
Traffic control is in effect Monday through Friday from dawn to dusk. Motorists should expect delays near the aforementioned vicinity on Highway 36 of up to 15 minutes. Preliminary tree work and delays are expected to end by mid-February.
This $49.8 million project includes 170 working days, with most nights requiring traffic control.
This preliminary work will conclude in mid-February, and the bulk of construction is expected to commence in the spring and summer as weather permits.
