California Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse is calling on all its supporters and Californians across the state to contact Assemblyman Ash Kalra, Chair of the Assembly Judiciary Committee, and urge him to schedule a hearing for Senator Roger Niello’s SB 84, the Americans with Disabilities Act reform bill. Kalra missed the June 1 deadline to schedule a hearing — but the bill can still move forward, and your voice matters.
SB 84 is a bipartisan bill that passed the Senate overwhelmingly and deserves a hearing. SB 84 will give small businesses the right to cure ADA violations within a 120-day period before being sued. The bill’s intent is to protect the rights of people with disabilities while protecting small businesses from meritless litigation.
Under current law, stacked claims and penalties of up to $4,000 per violation can turn minor infractions into major financial threats for small businesses.
This should be an easy vote of support for Kalra and other members of the Assembly Judiciary Committee.
