City Council roundup — June 3 meeting

Here’s a roundup of actions taken by the Susanville City Council at its Wednesday, June 3 meeting.

Closed session
The council met in closed session to conduct interviews for the public works director position. City Manager Dan Newton said the council took no reportable action.

Consent calendar
The council unanimously approved its consent calendar — minutes from the council’s special meetings May 13 and May 20 and the regular meeting held May 20 and the vendor and payroll warrants.

Councilmember announcements
Susanville City Councilmember Curtis Bortle made the following announcement, approved by the Susanville Indian Rancheria Tribal Business Council: “Please allow me to acknowledge that we are on the ancestral and contemporary homelands of the Maidu, Paiute, Pit River and Washoe people of the Susanville Indian Rancheria where the city of Susanville is located.”

New business
The council unanimously approved Resolution No. 26-6545 authorizing emergency work associated with the failure of the variable frequency drive at Well 3 on Johnstonville Road.

Emergency operations at Memorial Park
Newton said more work is needed in the aftermath of a fire at the grandstands at Memorial Park and the firing of a contractor. Newton said the insurance company is reviewing the work done by the contractor, and he said the city could continue the restoration without an emergency declaration by the council.
