A pair of recent Lassen County Superior Court decisions will allow the city of Susanville to move forward with the abatement of the St. Francis Hotel and the burned out bowling alley on Main Street Susanville.
Demolition of the historic St. Francis Hotel could begin by the first of September.
During a telephone interview with City Manager Dan Newton late Friday afternoon, he said he would have more information when he reports to the Susanville City Council at its Wednesday, July 30, meeting.

Newton said the receiver for the St. Francis Hotel has “engaged” and has already begun putting things in place in order to begin the demolition.

He said he will ask the council Wednesday to grant him the authority to pay the demolition costs, and then the city will end up with a note on the property once the demolition is complete.
Newton said the goal is to have the work start sometime around the beginning of September if not sooner.

And he said the same receiver also has taken on the project at the bowling alley as well.
A receiver is a neutral third party appointed by the court to take control of a property and manage its demolition after the property has been designated a nuisance and the owner is unable or unwilling to address the problem.
