City’s public safety chief, public works director announce retirement
Before the snow flies, the city of Susanville will have two large management positions to fill.
According to an item on the agenda for today’s 3 p.m. Susanville City Council Special Meeting Public Safety Chief Mike Bollinger and Public Works Director Bob Godman announced their retirement.
Mike Bollinger became the public safety chief in February 2024.Bollinger will retire in October and Godman’s last day will be Aug. 30.
According to the agenda item, the proposed salary for the public safety chief — a new position created by the city council in February 2024 to eliminate and combined the positions of police and fire chief — will rise to between $139,962 to $187,581, effective Oct. 11, 2025.
A modification of the salary range for the public works director is also proposed. The proposed salary range — $126.962 to $170,141 will be effective Aug. 31, 2025.
The city’s account technician II position also has been added back to the approved position list. According to the staff report, “The Account Technician II position was reclassified in March 2025 and the 2025/2026 FY budget was adopted with the Account Technician position included in the Finance Budget. The Account Technician II is being presented at the previous position range in the Miscellaneous Unit at Range 142-146. The Account Technician II position will add necessary efficiencies in the city’s accounts receivables, business license program, account management, and various city program financial assistance.
According to the staff report, the fiscal impact of these changes is, “Increased pay range of Public Safety Chief and Public Works Director and addition of Account Technician II to approved position list. Salaries of employees may vary depending on experience and qualifications.”
