Survivor’s Season 50 is far, far from over, and while some his fellow castaways tossed his name out onto the chopping block for tribal council, Susanville’s Coach, the Dragon Slayer, Ben Wade remains in the game.

“Survivor is a simple game,” Coach said when we ran into him last week at the Blue Ox Bistro on Main Street in Susanville. “You’ve got to have the numbers in your favor to vote somebody out.”
Coach, who’s earned a reputation as an old-school Survivor player, said, “You can’t play with cowards. I had to wrangle with everybody to split the vote,” in the last episode.
He said splitting the vote is a strategy that’s probably as old as the game itself.
“You take a simple game and make it complex,” Coach said. “Somebody has to take the lead,” bringing up his Four Horsemen designation and his reliance on pontificating in Haiku while lying in a hammock.
But don’t be deceived because Wade warns, “Look out — the old coach – the Dragon Slayer — is back!”
