Election Day: It’s now or never

It’s election day today — that important opportunity when We the People set the course of our ship of state. It’s completely our call.

I do not see voting as a drudgery. Rather, I believe casting our ballots is our solemn duty, nothing short of a proud obligation of our citizenship.

I will not tell you how to vote or for whom to vote. I leave that decision completely to your wisdom. But I will ask you to vote.

Some say this is the most important election in history. I remember my conservative Republican uncle from Florida saying that way back in 1968 when Richard Nixon got elected. Perhaps it’s hyperbole, but this election seems to offer us a choice between two different political visions. We make that decision with our votes.

While there are sure to be challenges to the results and allegations of voter fraud and stolen elections, we should remember all our votes are counted at the county level by our fellow local citizens all across our great land.

I have complete faith Julie Bustamante, our Lassen County Clerk, and the employees in her office will handle our election with the utmost honesty, honor and integrity. I have faith in all the others who assume this responsibility across our great land.

And finally I pray we Americans are big enough and wise enough to accept the results of today’s election. This is, after all, the way we do it America.

Please vote today. Your ballot — or its absence —  truly sets the fate of our nation in motion.

Go vote. It’s not too late.
