A riot occurred on the Cascade Unit at the California Correctional Center about 2:05 p.m. Saturday, May 3.
The incident involved Black, Southern Hispanic and Mexican National inmates in the Cascade Unit, according to Lt. Scott Porter, administrative assistant at CCC.
Staff used a 40mm launcher and deployed one 40mm XM006 round to quell the incident.
Porter said there were no staff injuries in the incident and no serious inmate injuries.
Porter said the three inmate groups in the Cascade Unit are still locked down.
Initially, Porter said staff thought the incident involved about 88 inmates, but that number has dropped to 27. He said those 27 inmates are being housed in the administrative segregation unit.
“The investigation continues and we’re still conducting interviews,” Porter said. “We’re still trying to figure out what caused the problem.”
