August’s Hidden Woods Music Festival, praised by supporters as one of the greatest, most progressive and forward-looking events in Lassen County Fairgrounds history, lost $364,752.27, according to a report from Samantha McMullen, interim fair manager.
According to a request from McMullen for the county to pay an additional $31,750 in Hidden Woods costs, “The Lassen County Fair seeks approval to pay the two attached invoices for Mason Entertainment for the Hidden Woods Music Festival. Mason Entertainment provides services for the Fair by finding and securing entertainment for events at the Fair. Mason charges a 10 percent fee for all entertainment acts they procure and sends an invoice for payment. There is no current contract for this service, but a contract for services moving forward is currently being drafted. The relationship between the Fair and Mason Entertainment goes back more than a decade. Payment for these services is normally between $500- $7,500 depending on the cost of the entertainer. These two invoices are substantially larger due to the cost of the entertainer(s) and the number of entertainers performing at the event.
