Male Sage Hens attracting their mates

Wildlife photographer Norm Williams submitted these photos of Sage Hen mating rituals in Lassen County.

“These photos are of male Sage Hens, trying to convince the females that they are the ones they should breed with,” Williams said.

“What a show. The patterns on the tail feathers are gorgeous.”

“The male Sage Hen has air sacks in their chest that they inflate to impress the females.”
