In the editorial published Sunday, Sept. 28, 2025, the writer left out a key element in the discussion on freedom of speech versus an employer’s right to allow the speaker a platform at the employer’s expense.
As has been shown by more recent events, the consumer public has a large say in the matter of whether they want to hear the opinion of the speaker.
The economic clout of the listeners has proven to be of such magnitude that Disney, ABC and certain affiliates caved in and reinstated the suspended on-air personalities.
Never underestimate the power of the people when free speech is at stake. Trump continues to try to suppress the voices of his perceived “enemies,” but he is falling short and will certainly fail in the end.
The will of the people will always prevail over would-be tyrants.
