Our Revolution, America’s largest grassroots progressive political organizing group, backs California’s Prop 50 to defend democracy

As California voters prepare to decide whether to reform the state’s redistricting process in response to Donald Trump and the GOP’s nationwide gerrymandering campaign, Our Revolution, America’s largest grassroots progressive political organizing group, today announced its endorsement of Proposition 50, the Election Rigging Response Act.

With 1.2 million contacts across the state, Our Revolution is flexing its grassroots muscle to ensure voters have the tools and information they need to pass Prop 50 and fight back against efforts to rig the electoral map and cement Republican control of Congress.

Republicans across the country have already launched sweeping redistricting schemes in states like Texas, Missouri, Ohio and Florida in an effort to tilt the balance of power before voters even cast a ballot. Prop 50 is California’s chance to counter this national gerrymandering agenda, protect fair elections, and make sure voters — not Republican billionaires or partisan insiders — decide the future of our democracy.

Joseph Geevarghese, Executive Director of Our Revolution, said, “Donald Trump and the GOP are trying to rig the system to keep themselves in power, enrich their corporate backers and dismantle our democracy piece by piece. Prop 50 is how we fight back here in California. With our 1.2 million contacts statewide, we are mobilizing in every corner of the state — texting, phone banking, canvassing, and engaging voters at every level — to make sure Californians have their voices heard and their votes protected. The stakes could not be higher: If Republicans succeed in gerrymandering the House, they’ll have free rein to continue their corruption and authoritarian power grab. Prop 50 is one important way we can fight back and preventing a full power grab by Trump and the oligarchs that put him in power.”

Our Revolution’s plan to support Prop 50 includes
• Deploying organizers on the ground across California.
• Mobilizing its 1.2 million California voters by text, phone bank, and canvassing.
• Educating voters about Prop 50 ahead of ballots dropping on Oct. 6.
• Driving a campaign to make 1.2 million voter contacts before Election Day.

Geevarghese continued, “Republican billionaires may have the money, but we have the people. When we organize, we win.  The stakes could not be any higher.”
