Park Fire update: Saturday, Sept. 7
According to a statement from the Southwest Complex Incident Management Team 2, the Park Fire has burned 429,603 acres and is 99 percent contained.
Resources include 564 personnel, one helicopter, 12 crews, 11 engines, nine dozers, 24 water tenders, two masticators, four chippers, 14 excavators, six feller bunchers, eight skidsteers, two log loaders, one backhoe and five road graders.
Current situation
During fire suppression, the urgency of the situation sometimes results in damage to values at rsk, such as items that preserve our cultural heritage. On the Lassen National Forest, examples of cultural resources are fire lookouts, cabins, mortars, quarries and lithics. During the suppression phase, resource advisors, tribal liaisons and others collaborate with firefighters to inform them of sensitive areas to avoid if at all possible. However, damage sometimes still results when fireline is constructed by hand or equipment or when retardant is dropped. During the repair phase, a significant responsibility of resource advisors is to walk miles of firelines to identify and inventory affected cultural sites. The treatment solutions are highly variable and specific to each site, but the goal is always to do no further damage. For instance, hand tools rather than heavy equipment might be used to repair or restore a site.
Weather and fire safety
Today will be slightly cooler than what the area experienced over the last few days. Unstable air in the area will give rise to variable winds, with ridgetop gusts up to 30 mph possible. Smoke from the interior of this fire is still likely but presents no threat to containment lines. Smoke from other local and regional fires is affecting some communities near the Park Fire.

Higher wind speeds could also increase the likelihood of fire-weakened trees falling across roads and trails, so be aware of your surroundings and comply with the forest closure order, which is to provide for both firefighter and public safety.
Forest closure
Parts of Lassen National Forest lands, roads, and trails near the fire are temporarily closed for the safety of the public and firefighters. Individuals are responsible for knowing where they are in relation to the closure area.
