State Board of Equalization invites public to share feedback on California’s Property Tax System

The California State Board of Equalization invites Californians to help improve taxpayer services and strengthen California’s property tax system by participating in the 2026 Taxpayers’ Bill of Rights Hearing.

The hearing will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26 and gives taxpayers, tax professionals and other interested members of the public an opportunity to speak directly with the elected members of the State Board of Equalization about California’s property tax system, the Alcoholic Beverage Tax, and their experiences with BOE taxpayer services.

BOE Chair Sally J. Lieber.

“Every taxpayer’s experience matters. Whether you’ve encountered a challenge with California’s property tax system, found something that works well, or have an idea for improving taxpayer services, we want to hear from you. Listening to the people we serve helps us better understand their needs and strengthens the recommendations we make to improve taxpayer services for all Californians,” said BOE Chair Sally J. Lieber.

Each year, comments received during the hearing help the Board and the Taxpayers’ Rights Advocate better understand the challenges taxpayers face. Those insights support recommendations to improve taxpayer education, strengthen taxpayer protections, and enhance the services BOE provides.

Whether you are a homeowner, business owner, tax professional, or simply interested in California’s property tax system, your perspective can help improve the taxpayer experience for Californians.
