Unidentified 76-year-old man killed in Highway 36 crash

The California Highway Patrol reports about 9:18 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, the Susanville CHP received a call of a crash on Highway 36, near Hillcrest Road.

Upon arrival, CHP located a single vehicle that had been involved in a major crash.

After investigation, it was determined that an unidentified 76-year-old man was driving a 2022 Aura eastbound on Highway 36 and an unknown speed. The release of the man’s identity is pending due to notification of the next of kin.

For unknown reasons, the man  allowed his vehicle to exit the south roadway edge of Highway 36. After leaving the road, the vehicle became airborne and ultimately crashed into a large pile of rocks before overturning. The vehicle finally came to rest on Hillcrest Road.

Emergency personnel provided medical care to the man and transported him to Banner Lassen Medical Center , and he was then flown to Renown Hospital in Reno Nevada. On April 15 the man succumbed to injuries sustained as a result of the crash.
