$100,000 in matching donations available over Valentine’s Day weekend to support the Red Cross of Northern Nevada
This Valentine’s Day weekend, the American Red Cross of Northern Nevada is asking donors to show their love for the community by giving during a special matching opportunity. Thanks to the generosity of a corporate partner, Leidos, donations made Feb. 13 through Feb. 15 will be matched dollar for dollar, up to a total of $100,000.
The match gives donors a chance to stretch their gift further while supporting Red Cross work that includes disaster relief, blood collection and emergency preparedness. Support from Leidos helps the Red Cross stay ready to respond to emergencies and help communities recover throughout Northern Nevada and nationwide. Donations eligible for the match can be made at redcross.org/give, by calling (800) HELP-NOW ((800) 435-7669) or by texting REDCROSS to 90999.
“When a family calls for help, we can respond because donors make the work possible,” said Bridget Posson, Executive Director for the American Red Cross Northern Nevada Chapter. “Their support helps keep volunteers trained and equipped so we can get there quickly, meet urgent needs and help families start to recover.”
Support making a difference nationwide and in Northern Nevada
Across the country, the American Red Cross has helped families after major disasters, including wildfires in California, flooding in Alaska and tornadoes in the Midwest. Volunteers have provided shelter, meals and emotional support. The Red Cross also responds to home fires, which often increase during colder months and in 2025, provided more than $130 million in financial assistance nationwide to help families rebuild.
In Northern Nevada, Red Cross volunteers made a strong impact in 2025. They responded to nearly 100 home fires and assisted more than 270 people, installed more than 500 free smoke alarms and shared fire safety information in the community. Northern Nevada volunteers also supported active-duty military families, provided preparedness information and deployed nationwide to help communities devastated by disasters.
A decade of support from Leidos
Leidos, a company that builds and operates technology systems for the defense, aviation and health care industries, has partnered with the Red Cross for more than 10 years. As a major corporate supporter, Leidos has focused on disaster relief efforts and hosting blood drives. Their philanthropic work also includes partnering with community organizations to deliver critical services and create opportunities for those in need.
