City Council discusses ARPA funds projects at Wednesday’s meeting

The Susanville City Council will discuss possible uses for unspent American Rescue Plan Act funds at its 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 19 meeting at City Hall, 66 N. Lassen Street. The item is on the agenda as a discussion item designed to give direction to staff.

According to the agenda, documents to be considered during the discussion include the staff report, the Susanville Elks Lodge business proposal, the Susanville Performing Arts Center Business Proposal, a cost estimate for a storage building for the museum and a cost estimate for the Little League bathrooms.

According to the agenda item, “The estimated cost of (the) projects is $3 million, but only $1.4 million in ARPA funds remain available.

On April 23, the council approved the expenditure of $1.2 million in ARPA funds — $75,000 for repairs at City Hall, $520,000 for repairs at the Susanville Fire Department, $250,000 for repairs at the Susanville Police Department, $159,000 for a marketing campaign to promote economic recovery and tourism and  $200,000 for a comprehensive General Plan Update (50 percent of the total cost).

Seven additional projects are under consideration for the remaining $1.4 million in ARPA funds include — a fire engine, repairs at the Elks Lodge, the performing arts center, museum storage, Little League bathrooms, code enforcement abatement and tennis court improvements.

The meeting begins at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, in closed session. Closed session items include a conference with real property negotiator (Ramsey Ditch) and a conference with labor negotiators (administrative unit, firefighters unit, management unit and the Susanville Police Officers Association unit).

Items on the agenda during open session at 5 p.m. include Business from the Floor; the Consent Calendar (minutes from the June 5, meeting and vendor and payroll warrants); New Business (Resolution No. 24-6324 granting authority to meet payroll and vendor warrants in the absence of a formally adopted budget; Resolution No, 24-6325 amending the fees at the Diamond Mountain Golf Course; Resolution No. 24-6326 adjusting the city’s water budget; a Water Rate Study presentation; Resolution, No. 24-6327 regarding the Riverside Drive Trail Project; and a consideration of councilmember compensation); Continuing Business (ARPA funds discussion); and Department Reports.

The Susanville City Council’s next meeting will be held at 4:30 p.m.. Wednesday, July 3.
