Notice for Opportunity to Comment: West Lassen Headwaters Landscape Restoration Project

The Almanor Ranger District, Lassen National Forest, is initiating scoping for the West Lassen Headwaters Landscape Restoration Project. The primary objectives of the project are to reduce the risk of high-severity wildland fire and enhance community protection, improve the health and resilience of forested areas, meadows, and hardwood stands, improve stream and road conditions, and restore portions of severely burned areas in the Dixie Fire and Park Fire. The project is a collaboration between the Lassen National Forest, the Lassen Volcanic National Park, the Sierra Institute for Community and Environment, and the South Lassen Watersheds Group.

The project area is located 6 to 22 miles west of Chester, California near and around the communities of Mineral, Mill Creek, Saint Bernard and Childs Meadow. The project area includes proposed treatments on about 101,471 acres of National Forest System lands in Plumas, Shasta and Tehama counties in parts of Township 30N, Ranges 3E, 4E and 5E; Township 29N, Ranges 3E, 4E, 5E, and 6E; Township 28N, Ranges 3E, 4E, 5E, and 6E; and Township 27N, Ranges 3E, 4E, 5E, and 6E, Mount Diablo Meridian.

A proposed action, including maps, of the proposed project activities, is available online at the Lassen National Forest website https://www.fs.usda.gov/project/lassen/?project=65349. The proposed action is also available for review at the Almanor Ranger District Office in Chester, California.
