Assembly candidate Heather Hadwick visits Susanville

District 1 Assembly candidate Heather Hadwick — a Modoc County resident — visited Susanville Saturday, Sept. 23, with stops at the Farmers Market on Pancera Plaza and a meet and greet at Memorial Park.

“I feel like I will do a good job representing Lassen County because this feels like home,” Hadwick said during the meet and greet at Memorial Park as Lassen County District 5 Supervisor Jason Ingram cooked and served free smash burgers to all attendees.

Looking around at the crowd, she said, “These are my neighbors.”

Lassen News asked Hadwick what she hoped to accomplish if elected to the assembly, succeeding Megan Dahle (a candidate for the state senate) in November.

“My number one issue right now is fire insurance because I think that’s affecting our district more than anywhere in the state,” Hadwick said. “I’m already setting up a coalition of experts — insurance agents, Firewise Community experts and representatives from Fire Safe Councils all over the district because every one’s a little bit different. I really want District 1 to the place the state is coming to because we have the answers, and we’ll be able to put some more pressure on them because they’re not moving as fast as they need to be. They’re pretty removed from it in Sacramento.

“Behind that — affordability, crime. Supporting public safety and first responders is a huge one for me because I come from the emergency management world. And then keeping our kids safe in schools and giving them the education they need.”

Of course, Hadwick encouraged everyone to cast their ballot in the upcoming election.
