Best of Broadway’s sure to be a smash!

Last week LassenNews attended a rehearsal of this year’s Best of Broadway show — “Breaking Point.”

“Breaking Point” features numbers from Broadway musicals including Carousel, Avenue Q, The Little Mermaid, The Blues Brothers, Once Upon A Mattress, Annie, Mama Mia!, Legally Blonde, Fiddler on the Roof and Sweeney Todd.

Congratulations to the cast and crew for putting together a show that includes some fantastic show-stopping performances. The directors deserve special praise for their work — the cast members of all ages are happy, enthusiastic and obviously having one heck of a good time performing, and that vibe is sure to infect every audience with their unabashed joy. The cast members are smiling from ear to ear and singing out to the rafters. Trust me — some performances in this show are that contagious.

Now truth be told, a few numbers still had some sharp edges that needed some smoothing out, and with more than week before opening night, I suspect those little glitches and missteps will be corrected and perfected. No reason to be nervous — that’s completely normal and to be expected when a troupe mounts a revue this large and this ambitious.

But let me tell you — some numbers are simply dazzling and sparkling gems destined to rank right up at the very tippy top among Best of Broadway’s greatest hits. Again, kudos to the cast, crew and everyone else involved with this production. Very well done, indeed.

Frankly, I can’t imagine anyone leaving this show disappointed and not tapping their feet as they walk out across Main Street with those wonderfully performed tunes stubbornly stuck in their ears.

Showtimes are 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 4; 7 p.m. Friday, March 6; 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, March 7; 6 pm. Wednesday, March 11; 7 p.m. Friday, March 13 and 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, March 14.
