Bridgeport Winter Recreation Area opens for snowmobiling

The Bridgeport Winter Recreation Area on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest’s Bridgeport Ranger District is opened for snowmobiling.

Permits are required for each person/ snowmobile entering the BWRA. They are free and can be obtained online at bridgeportavalanchecenter.org/.

Self-issued permits are also available at the People’s Gate kiosk.

While the Bridgeport Winter Recreation Area offers beautiful views and diverse winter activities, visitors must be cautious of potential hazards like snowstorms, extreme cold, strong winds and the risk of avalanches, making proper preparation and awareness crucial before venturing into the area

When venturing into backcountry areas with potential avalanche risks, always be prepared with essential safety gear like an avalanche beacon, probe, shovel, and an airbag system, alongside winter survival gear. Also, never travel alone, or rely on cell phones, which may be unreliable in remote locations.
