CalFire CalFire collects tons of garbage from Old Mill Fuel Reduction Project site

According to a Facebook post, in preparation for the Old Mill Fuel Reduction Project along the Susan River, the CalFire Lassen Modoc Unit employees recently removed more than 7,000 pounds of garbage from the dense over growth.

The garbage was loaded into trucks and hauled to the landfill.

The use of live fire in that area will continue to be postponed until conditions improve.

CalFire announces prescribed burn along Riverside Drive next week
CalFire, in cooperation with the Susanville Fire Department and the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, will conduct prescribed burning operations in the area of Riverside Drive, south of the Susan River in the general area of the Old SPI Mil site in Susanville.

Burn operations are scheduled for the week of June 17, when conditions are favorable.

Fire suppression resources will be actively working in that area, and smoke will be visible, however, there is no need to report this fire.

This area is frequently plagued with nuisance fires during the peak fire season causing dangerous conditions to the city’s residents and Susan River Walk users.

The purpose of the project is to reduce the fuels available for fire starts prior to the onset of prolonged extreme heat and severe conditions that the area experiences during the summer months.

The result will lessen the impacts from future unwanted fires to the nearby homes and infrastructure.
