Celebrate the 4th of July weekend at the Lassen County Fairgrounds
If you’re trying to figure out a spectacular and exciting way for everyone in the family to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary this 4th of July holiday weekend — think the Lassen County Fairgrounds!
Lassen County Fair Manager Bill Payer and his staff at the Lassen County Fairgrounds have put together a two-day 4th of July weekend celebration with food, fun, live music, stock car racing and fireworks that’s mighty hard to beat.
According to a flyer from the fair, “Let’s celebrate freedom!”
Friday, July 3
Given the high cost of a fireworks show on the 4th July, the Lassen County Fairgrounds will fire up the evening sky with a spectacular lightshow about 9:30 p.m. Friday, July 3.
Payer said the Lassen County Chamber of Commerce held a community fireworks show last year, and they planned another event for this year, but in the end the chamber handed it off to the fairgrounds instead. Believe it or not a fireworks show on July 4 costs about twice as much as a show on July 3, so the decision was made to keep an eye of the budget.
Actually, the July 3 festivities begin at 3 p.m. featuring fireworks, food vendors, games and attractions for children and the stock car races at the Diamond Mountain Speedway. And here’s the best part — except for the stock car races it’s all free of charge!
Saturday, July 4
And the festivities continue Saturday, July 4 when the gates open at 3 p.m. The day features the stock-car races, live music, food vendors, games and attractions for children and a concert by Rummy starting about 9 p.m. following the races.
Diamond Mountain Speedway information
Two nights of racing at Diamond Mountain Speedway featuring IMCA modifieds, IMCA sport mods, IMCA stock cars, hobby stocks and mini stocks. But that’s not all — the Sierra Sprint Car Series and the Tri State Pro Stock Series also will speed around that quarter-mile dirt track.
The pits open at 11 a.m., the grandstands open at 2 p.m. and the racing starts at 3 p.m.
Pit passes are $40 (general admission), $25 (kids 5-17, seniors over 65 and veterans and free for kids under 5.
Grandstand tickets are $15 (general admission), $10 (kids 5-17 and seniors over 65) and free to veterans with an ID and kids under 5.
