CHP warns of the danger posed by distracted driving

Taking your eyes off the road for 5 seconds to text while driving at 55 mph is equivalent to traveling the entire length of a football field (300 feet) blindfolded, according to a Facebook post by the California Highway Patrol.

This common, high-risk behavior is a leading cause of fatal crashes, often involving 4.6 to 5 seconds of total inattention.
