City Council meets at 5 p.m. next Wednesday; considers how to spend $2.5 million in unused ARPA funds

No closed session, so the Susanville City Council meets at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17 at the City Council Chambers, 66 N. Lassen St.

Items on the agenda include Business from the Floor (public comment); the Consent Calendar (minutes from the Jan. 3 meeting and monthly financial reports, April through September 2023); New Business (Resolution No. 24-6271 regarding a contract with StoneCo Construction, Resolution No. 24-6271 regarding the expenditure of $12,320 to support the preparation of the city’s Hazard Mitigation Plan and the annual report on the Local Area Revitalization Project); Continuing Business (consider proposed ARPA fund expenditures and city project priorities); and department reports.

According to the staff report, “The city has approximately $2.5 million in ARPA funds remaining. At previous council meetings the city council discussed apportioning the funds to the following categories: $1 million for economic development as an external investment. For example, improving Main St. building facades. $500,000 for economic development as an internal investment. For example, hiring an outside firm to provide professional development training to city staff and recommend improvements to development processes. $500,000 for marketing Susanville. $500,000 for city facility repairs and improvements. Input has been provided by the public as well as city staff and council members.”
