Deputy city manager delivers Memorial Park update: Design for new grandstand
Susanville deputy city manager Jolene Arredondo provided an update on Memorial Park at the Susanville City Council’s Aug. 5 meeting, including the work at Frank Ernaga Field.

Susanville native Frank Ernaga played for the Chicago Cubs during parts of the 1956 and 1957 seasons. The Memorial Park baseball field is named in his honor.The grandstand at Frank Ernaga Field burned to ground July 5, 2025. The cause of the fire, if known, has never been revealed.
The grandstands before the fire.In a PowerPoint presentation (included below), Arredondo provided an update on all the activities going on at Memorial Park, including Park Rental and Usage; Per Capita Grant Improvements; CDBG-CV Grant Program; Tennis/Pickleball Courts; Lassen Historical Museum; the Memorial Park Fire; and Memorial Park identified improvement projects.

Completed restoration under emergency order
• Fire debris removal and initial site cleanup;
• Field sod repairs and ballfield site restoration:
• Irrigation restoration, park lighting restoration (LMUD temporary power installation);
• Bathroom (new doors, locks, paint, lights, signs and electrical);
• Concession building (new roof truss and metal roofing, new paint);
• Announcers booth (new carpet and paint and PA system electrical restoration); and
• New backstop poles and new netting.
Remaining items subject to public bidding process/procurement policy
• Grandstand rebuild; and
• Field lighting and new light poles.
