Emergency restoration efforts along highways 32/36/172 due to Park Fire

Caltrans District 2 and contractor J.F. Shea Company, Inc. are conducting emergency restoration operations on portions of highways 32, 36, and 172 stemming from the Park Fire. The fire, which started on July 24, has burned 429,263 acres and is currently 49 percent contained.

As of Thursday, August 15, Highway 32 is now open in the Park Fire area. Motorists should plan for areas of one-way traffic control upcoming for emergency restoration efforts. Highway 36 remains closed between the west junction with Highway 172 in Mineral and the junction with Highway 32. Highway 172 also remains fully closed from the junctions with Highway 36 in Mineral and near Mill Creek.

The Park Fire has caused damage to state property in District 2 on Highway 36 from just west of The Dales through the east junction with Highway 172 in Mill Creek, on Highway 32 between the Butte/Tehama county line and Deer Creek, and on Highway 172 in multiple areas. Emergency restoration efforts include hazard tree removal and disposal, guardrail repair, erosion control and sign replacement.
