Fair Entertainment Advisory Board to meet with the racing community at 5 p.m. tomorrow
At this moment, no one knows if the roar of the engines at Diamond Mountain Speedway will reverberate though Susanville this year. But we may find out at 5 p.m. tomorrow evening when the Lassen County Fair Entertainment Advisory Board meets with racers at Jensen Hall to discuss the issue.
Race car drivers push their machines and themselves as far as they can go. Will they get to race at Diamond Mountain Speedway this year? We may find out tomorrow.According to the Lassen County Fair, the county twice sought proposals from contractors to operate Diamond Mountain Speedway this year at the Lassen County Fairgrounds. No proposals were received in the first round. The county received one proposal in the second round, but that proposal was rejected.
Reina Davis said she submitted the only proposal to operate the speedway this year. She said she doesn’t know why her proposal was rejected.Reina Davis, the contractor who submitted the rejected proposal, said no one will tell her why her proposal was rejected. She said she believes the fair rejected her proposal simply because she is a woman.
About two dozen members of the racing community showed up at a Lassen County Fair Advisory Board meeting last Tuesday, but the item was not on the agenda, so the advisory board members couldn’t answer their questions or offer any comment.
So the board arranged tomorrow’s 5 p.m. meeting at Jensen Hall — with the item on the agenda so everyone involved may speak freely.
Davis seems to have support from the racing community and several members pledged to work with her to fix any issues that may arise out at the speedway.
