According to a statement by the California Highway Patrol, approximately 11:08 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, Craig Wessel, 62, of Canyon Dam, was driving a 2021 Ford pickup southbound on Highway 147, at an undetermined speed.
For reasons under investigation, Wessel allowed the Ford to leave roadway to the east. The driver was ejected and landed next to the vehicle which caught fire.
The driver was located on fire by CHP and Peninsula Fire personnel and pulled away from the burning vehicle.
Wessel was flown via air ambulance to Enloe Medical Center for treatment of suspected major injuries This case is still under investigation.
