Fire updates

Here’s an update on wildfires burning in our region.

Elephant Fire
According to CalFire, the Elephant Fire has burned 6,436 acres and is 5 percent contained.

According to a Facebook post by the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, evacuations for the Elephant fire in the area of Highway 49 and Dotta Lane, Loyalton.

Zone LAS-451-A – has been ugraded to an evacuation order.

Zone LAS-671-B is now in a warning.

Please avoid the area if at all possible to allow emergency crews access.

3-1 Pit Fire
According to CalFire, the 3-1 Pit Fire has blacked 1,055 acres and is 80 percent contained.

Firefighters continue making steady progress by strengthening and improving containment lines around the fire, and conducting mop-up, and backhaul operations.

Today’s weather brings a slight chance of thunderstorms along with breezy southwest to west winds. Dry grasses and other light vegetation remain susceptible to fire activity.

Loomis Fire
According to CalFire, the Loomis Fire has burned 656 acres and is 15 percent contained.

Evacuation warnings
Potential threat to life and/or property. Those who require additional time to evacuate, and those with pets and livestock should leave now.

Evacuation warnings issued for the following zones:
• LAS-141-A.
• LAS-141-B.
• LAS-143.
• LAS-145.
• LAS-153.
• LAS-157.

Firefighters continue reinforcing and improving containment lines around the fire. While some short-range spotting has been observed, crews responded quickly and successfully extinguished these spot fires.

Fire resources and equipment remain heavily present throughout the area. Please use caution, slow down, and watch for firefighters and emergency vehicles working along roadways.

According to CalFire, the Twain Fire has burned 275 acres and is 10 percent contained.

Evacuation warnings
Potential threat to life and/or property. Those who require additional time to evacuate, and those with pets and livestock should leave now.

• PLU-043-B.
