Firefighters knock down fire near Susan River bike path

According to a statement from the Susanville Fire Department, about 6:30 a.m. this morning, Friday, Sept. 6, the Susanville Interagency Dispatch Center dispatched the SFD, CalFire, the Susan River Fire Protection District and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Fire to a reported grass fire on the hill between River Street and the Susan River bike path, in front of Lassen Nursing and Rehabilitation, 2005 River Street.

SFD Truck 1 arrived on scene at River Street and found an active grass fire on the slope.

Truck 1 initiated a fire attack and stopped the progress of the fire. CalFire E2291 arrived on scene and initiated fire attack on the south flank of the fire. CalFire E2261 arrived on scene and provided a water supply for Truck 1 and cut a fire break on the north side of the fire.

Susanville City E628 and Susan River E224 made access from the bike path and extinguished hot spots within the burn area.

CDCR E5210 arrived and assisted with cutting fine line and final extinguishment of the fire. The fire was contained to an area of 0.13 acres., and there were no firefighter or civilian injuries.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
