Former Milford student hosts bake sale/pulled pork taco fundraiser Saturday at Tractor Supply for mission trip to Malawi, Africa

Former Milford student Rebecca Kirklin, currently a junior studying agricultural education at the University of Wisconsin, River Falls, hopes to raise $5,000 to support her ministry trip to Malawi to share the Good News and her knowledge about agriculture with the people there.

“I am thrilled to get the opportunity to be stretched and grown this summer.,” Kirklin said. “However, to make it all happen, I am inviting you to partner with me in prayer and financial support. All donations will go straight to my summer mission, making it possible (for me) to help people.”

The bake sale/pulled pork taco fundraiser will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 31 in front of Tractor Supply on Main Street in Susanville. The proceeds from this fundraiser will help cover the supplies that Kirklin will be giving out to the people who attend the workshops. Donations also can be sent to her at give.cru.org/1291480.

“I am excited to be partnering with Unto (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ), Cru’s humanitarian aid ministry, to go to Malawi and combine my love of Jesus with my love of agriculture,” Kirklin said. “We will be going to teach communities in Malawi about more efficient and sustainable agricultural methods. This is done with also focusing on the great commandment (Love the Lord your God) with the great commission (go make disciples of all nations). The goal of the mission trip is to supply the people of Malawi with more resources and knowledge to help combat the commercialization of agriculture and allowing families to grow food for themselves and others.”

Kirklin fondly remembers her time in Lassen County and the values she learned here growing up.

“I have enjoyed every moment of being at college,” she said. “Before I came to UW-River Falls, I was very active in Milford 4-H in Susanville, California. 4-H developed my love of agriculture and helped set me on the path to pursuing an agricultural education degree. Outside of 4-H, I was active in my church’s youth group and was a leader before I moved to Wisconsin. Since moving to Wisconsin, I have been able to grow in many ways, especially in my relationship with Christ. I have met some amazing friends and joined a couple different Bible studies that have given me a good, supportive community … I recently attended the Cru Winter Conference. It was so amazing to get to worship with more than 700 students from the Midwest.”

She also asks the community to support her in prayer.

“I am also asking support in prayer.,” Kirklin said. “The team and I will be working together to plan workshops for the people of Malawi. I also need prayers for safety and guidance as I start this adventure. I am beyond thankful for this opportunity, and I cannot wait to see how God is on the move!”
