Grizzlies take North Section championship for the first time since 1978

Congratulations to LHS’ varsity wrestling team — North Section Champions for the first time since 1978.

According to a statement by James Merchant, LHS coach, the Grizzlies lost the Northern Athletic League title to Anderson on Feb. 3 by a team score of 183 – 200. Undaunted, Coach Brian Moore spent the week preparing the team to make history at the North Section Division II Tournament in Anderson.

Lassen took an early lead in team points and held on despite a late tournament push by Orland. 

At the end of the day, the following wrestlers placed to earn Lassen its first Section Title in 46 years: Alex Shaw, second place, 108 pounds; Yuma Rigney, first place, 122 pounds; Samuel Blue, second place, 128 pounds; Wyatt Harkema, sixth place, 134 pounds; Parker Hicks, third place, 146 pounds; Phillip Bush fourth place, 152 pounds; Quentin Maumoynier, first place, 167 pounds; Clayton Biggs, 4fourth place, 177 pounds; Deshon Moore, first place, 192 pounds; Shamus Guizar, second place, 217 pounds; Reegan Dunten, first place, 287 pounds.

This weekend, Feb. 16 and 17, is the North Section Masters Tournament in Red Bluff.

The Lady Grizz Wrestlers also had an amazing weekend in Anderson with the following wrestlers getting medals:
Kona Rigney, second place; Allyssa Kirkpatrick, third place; Cheyenne White, second place; Alysha (Amethyst) Lorenz, third place; Mallory Bush, third place.
