In America, we celebrate independence because We the People are still the King!
I just read Sam Williams’ “My Turn” opinion on the 4th of July celebrations.
It tells us the what-for and why America was ever fit to lead the world in which we live. Mr. Williams did us all a favor in using words properly and it is something everyone should be exposed to while still in school.
In these current times, as America is being taken for a ride on a wrong way street, Mr. Williams “My Turn” article reminded me of why I ever found love in my soul for a silly thing like an idea about being a citizen.
Thank you, Sam. I understand that you did not create the story you tell. That tells me that “truth” is to be respected just for being true, and valuable because it applies in seeking to serve mankind.
America is state of mind, an idea more than just a name on a box of goodies. I urge everyone to read it, and I hope it reminds us how it has come to be that we once ruled the world, and rightly so.
By the way, I would add that against all odds, the idea that men and women, are their own masters, if they can remember that. America is a creation of men, not God. Good or bad is for each of us to figure out in a democracy. It is what we do. It is what the rest of the world has been shown is possible.
As we deal with some who want to be Kings, in America, they can only do that with the consent of the governed. In America, we celebrate independence because We the People are still the King!
