Of course, the highlight of JandJ Performing Arts’ Christmas Extraordinaire is the Susanville City Kickettes, some of the city’s most talented and accomplished dancers who appear in several numbers and different costumes throughout the performance. As their name implies, the group is well known for the dizzying high kicks and complicated dance moves they perform before a packed, sold out house. File photo

J&J Performing Arts’ Christmas Extraordinaire kicks off the holiday season this weekend

Everybody in Lassen County knows Christmas is right around the corner when the Susanville City Kickettes from JandJ Performing Arts storm the stage at the Veterans Memorial Hall.

The JandJ Performing Arts dancers join the show’s real stars — the Susanville City Kickettes — at the annual Christmas Extraordinaire show at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 and 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15.

As always, the show features those big, sky-high kicks from the Kickettes, a visit by Santa and all your favorite elves, dolls, toy soldiers, reindeer and much, much more!

“Yes, our Christmas Extraordinaire is at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 and 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15 ,” said JandJ’s Performing Arts’ Jessica Wade. “We have added the Grinch story to our show. It is sure to warm your hearts with joy.”

But that’s not all.

“The two-hour show will feature the Susanville City Kickettes, and all your JandJ dancers from 18 months to adults will perform,” said Wade. “We will have Santa’s workshop, The Grinch, 2020 Celebration and of course our live nativity.”

“Our True Meaning of Christmas scene is always a memorable moment in the show,” said Wade. “We take you through a young dancer’s struggle with a parent being gone on Christmas. The modern dance pieces that accompany the scene highlight the true meaning of why we celebrate with family.”

As always, the show ends with a beautiful and moving live nativity.

“Each season the show becomes bigger while maintaining an intimate feel for the whole audience,” said Wade. “Your support for our local talented performers is crucial. Watching them grow is the joy, but giving them the confidence is the true benefit to everyone in our community. When we grow strong youth. We build strong communities. Your Susanville City Kickettes will have performed more than 100 hours of community service this season, we are building female leaders, through the art of dance.”
