Joan Schwicker Archer

Joan Schwicker Archer lived for her Savior—and now lives with Him eternally.
Her life on earth was shaped and refined through decades of suffering with rheumatoid arthritis, essential tremors, and finally cancer, passing at 82 years old on April 16, 2025. Yet through it all, God faithfully strengthened this gentle woman of faith, making her fruitful and steadfast even in her final weeks on earth.
Joan began her career in teaching in the primary grades in Pasadena, and later in Westwood, Janesville, and Herlong. Her career spanned from first grade through graduate school, and her passion for education touched generations.
She was the beloved wife of Jon Archer for 62 years, and together they lived a life of love, prayer, service, and adventure. She was the devoted mother of two sons: Jonathan Jr. of Brawley, CA, and Luke of Port Hueneme, CA. Joan mothered far more than her own children—opening her heart and home to many others over the years, often without even realizing the depth of her impact.
Joan lived a life of prayer, disciplined study of the Word, quiet service, and deep devotion to her family. Her faith was not just spoken—it was lived, day in and day out.
What God accomplished through Joan’s life will be celebrated on June 21st at 3:00 PM at Gateway Church, Brawley, CA 92227—and forever more in heaven.
“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen.”
—Ephesians 3:20–21
