LARP responds to city council’s recent funding decision; sends message to community

According to a Facebook post from the  Local Area Revitalization Project Co-Op, It is with a heavy heart that the Local Area Revitalization Project Co-Op announces that this will most likely be the last season for the Susanville Farmers Market in its current location at Pancera Plaza in Historic Uptown Susanville.

At the May 7 (Susanville City) Council meeting, the council voted that, beginning in 2026, they will no longer provide complimentary support for essential services that help the market operate safely at Pancera Plaza.

Instead, the city council now plans to charge the Farmers Market for city staff time related to necessary street closures, as well as for police presence and lighting at our night markets.

These newly imposed charges, which the city has estimated to be between $2,000 and $6,000 per season, are not financially viable for a small, grassroots market like ours without us significantly raising vendor fees, which we will not do.

LARP Cooperative’s mission is to support local farmers, ranchers and small business owners, not to pass on costs that make it harder for them to participate in our local economy.

For 2025, we are grateful that the city of Susanville is supporting one more year of the Farmers Market on Pancera Plaza, and we cannot wait to see you all there. We will be looking for a new home for 2026, so please reach out if you are someone, or know someone, who would love to host the farmers market for our local Lassen County community.
