Lassen County students excel in spelling bee

Champion spellers from Lassen County’s elementary and middle schools gathered at Richmond Elementary School on Friday, March 20 to compete in the 2026 Lassen County Spelling Bee.

Participating schools included Diamond View Middle School, Janesville School, Johnstonville Elementary School, Long Valley Charter School, Richmond Elementary School and Shaffer Elementary.

This year’s competition included three divisions. Division one consisted of 16 students in 3rd and 4th grades. Division two consisted of 14 students in 5th and 6th grades. Division three included 13 students in 7th and 8th grades.

Division 1 (Grades 3-4)
Champion: Adelyn Russell, Richmond Elementary School. Runner Up: Saxon Edmiston, Shaffer Elementary School.

Division 2 (Grades 5-6)
Champion: Audrey Estrada, Janesville School. Runner Up: Jackson Fletcher, Johnstonville Elementary School.

Division 3 (Grades 7-8)
Champion: Tyler Radey, Long Valley Charter School Doyle. Runner Up: Mason Taylor, Janesville School.
