Lassen Fire Safe Council hosts Jan. 21 meeting

The Lassen Fire Safe Council meets at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21 at the Susan River Fire Protection Office, 705-145 Johnstonville Road.

Laura Schweitzer, Forest Supervisor for the Plumas National Forest will be the guest speaker, providing an update on the PNF and what’s happening in the agency at the higher levels.

Items on the agenda include a report from the managing director on active projects — CalFire grants (South Lassen Wildfire Recovery, North Susanville WUI Fuels Treatments and ELRD Hazard Tree Removal); SNC grants (East Side Communities, RFFCP-Hazard Assessment, Bootsole-close out and Diamond Mountain-close out); and Other — (Honey Lake Valley RCD-SPA, CWPP, CFSC-County Coordinator and FS Cradle Valley/Bootsole Dixe Fire Salvage-close out).

Closed out projects include the Shingletown WUI Fuels Treatment; Whitmore Forest and Watershed Restoration; Hog and Sheep Fire Forest Restoration; Dyer Mountain WUI Fuels Treatment; and Defensible Space Assistance Grant.

New planned/awarded projects include Dyer WUI Fuels Phase II; Lassen Countywide Defensible Space Program; Shingletown Phase 2 Community Treatments; Shingletown Phase 2 Shaded Fuel Breaks; Lyonsville Fuel Break; Lone Spring-Phase 1; Acer Vegetation Management; and Cow Creek Forest and Watershed.

Agency updates include NRCS; SIR; BLM; CalFire; SNC; USFS-LNF; USFS-PNF’ Lassen County OES; SPI; Honey Lake Power; Lassen County; Honey Lake Valley RCD; Red Cross; Golden State Natural Resources and Firewise community leaders.

The LFSC’s next meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 18.
