Lassen Municipal Utility District Roundup

The Lassen Municipal Utility District held a regularly scheduled meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24.

Here’s a summary of the actions taken by the board of directors at the meeting.

The board approved the minutes from its Aug. 27 meeting with a clarification requested by board President Daren Hagata. He said he abstained from a vote awarding a grading and fencing bid to Hat Creek Construction because a relative is employed there. He said as an elected official, he is required to state the reason for his abstention that was not reported in the minutes. The board unanimously approved the minutes with that clarification.

The board also unanimously approved the job description for a senior accountant, a revised organization chart, two change order requests at the Skedaddle Substation, and a $102,000 design proposal for the Milwood Capacitor Bank Addition that was unbudgeted.

By a 4-0-1 vote (Hagata abstained due to a relative working for Hat Creek Construction) the board approved a service contract with Hat Creek Construction.

The board met in closed session to discuss significant exposure to litigation, but no action was expected.

Theresa Phillips, LMUD’s public relations manager, said the publicly owned utility district is already making plans to celebrate Public Power Week by serving coffee and donuts to shoppers at Susanville Supermarket IGA Thursday, Oct. 10, an annual event.

She said LMUD continues to pursue grants for an electrical vehicle charging station.

At the recent Northwest Innovations and Communications Conference, LMUD received two first place Excellence in Communications awards — for brochures and the utility’s Facebook page.
