LHS Alumni Association to induct three new honorary members

Attendees at the Lassen High School Alumni Association’s Spring Social held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 10 at the Lassen Senior Center can welcome the 2019 honorees — Ray Craig, Ann Craig and Jackie Tripp.

According to a newsletter announcement about the event, “We invite all the inductees’ friends and family, along with members of the Alumni Association, to recognize these outstanding individuals for their support of Lassen High School over the years.”

Ray Craig led the music program at Lassen High School for many years. He not only offered instruction to students on a wide variety of band instruments and directed the Marching Band and the Pep Band that performed at football games, basketball games the and Lassen County Fair Parade.

According to the association’s newsletter, “Ray Craig stands out as an educator who was intent on providing for the best interests of those whom he taught.”

Ann Craig, Ray’s wife, served as a substitute teacher before becoming the library clerk. She also was a huge supporter of the LHS music program, serving as a chaperone and repairing uniforms. She also served as the junior varsity field hockey coach, the JV softball coach and as an official of the drill team try-outs.

According to the association’s newsletter, Ann Craig was “a valued presence for students,” someone who was “very committed to young people.”

After their retirement from the high school, the Craigs worked at Richmond School — Ray as the band director and Ann as the librarian.

Jackie Tripp worked for 19 years in the Lassen High School District Office.

Despite never graduating from high school, she enrolled at Lassen Community College where she earned an associate’s degree and a valedictorian of her class in 1966.

Before coming to LHS, Tripp worked at the United California Bank. Along the way, she earned a bachelor’s degree in public administration.

She plays organ at her church, has been a member of PEO for more than 30 years, a member of Beta Sigma Phi International for more than 50 years, and she is a past member of Eastern Star.

According to the association newsletter, “Jackie has been a long-time supporter of the Lassen High Alumni Association and a faithful attendee at our Spring Social and our Annual Picnic.”
