Local candidate filing period closes Friday, Aug. 9, for the Nov. 5, general election

Those interested in running for local office in the Nov. 5, 2024 General Election have until the close of business Friday, Aug. 9, to file all necessary paperwork. Candidates have until 5 p.m. to complete their candidate filing with the Lassen County Clerk-Elections Division located behind the Historic Courthouse at 220 South Lassen Street, Susanville. The deadline also applies to local jurisdictions that intend to place a measure on the November ballot.

To date, numerous candidates have filed to run for office in local school and special district races being held during the Nov. 5, 2024 General Election in Lassen County. A complete list of the seats open for election and a list of local candidates is posted on the Lassen County Election webpage at lassencounty.org/dept/county-clerk-recorder/elections, or can be sent to you upon request by calling (530) 251-8352.

If an eligible incumbent does not qualify as a candidate by the close of business on Friday, Aug. 9, the candidate filing period will be extended another five calendar days and will end at the close of business Wednesday, Aug. 14. Anyone eligible, other than the incumbent, may file during the extended candidate filing period.

Local positions up for election in November include the Clear Creek Community Services District, the Spalding Community Services District, the Leavitt Lake Community Services District, the Little Valley Community Services District, the Westwood Community Services District, the Stones Bengard Community Services District, the Southern Cascades Community Services District (shared with Modoc County), the Big Valley Fire Protection District, the Doyle Fire Protection District, the Janesville Fire Protection District, the Lake Forest Fire Protection District, the Madeline Fire Protection District, the Standish-Litchfield Fire Protection District, the Susan River Fire Protection District, the Hallelujah Junction Fire Protection District, the Fall River Valley Fire Protection District (shared with Shasta County), the Mayers Memorial Hospital District (shared with Modoc and Shasta counties), the Lassen Library District, the Susanville Sanitary District, the Lassen Municipal Utility District, the Herlong Public Utility District.
