Locally produced movie’s world premiere at 2 p.m. Nov. 4 at Lassen County Arts Council

Most of us know Susanville resident Thomas Braun as a musician who’s appeared in many bands over many years. But did you know he is also a filmmaker?

His film, “Artown,” created in 2009 in response to the 2007 movie “Prison Town USA.”

According to a statement from Braun, “Prison Town USA” was unaccepted because “it painted a somewhat bleak, one-sided picture of our town. I felt that Susanville was and is more than its prisons; I see it as a home for performing arts, particularly music, but also theatre, dance and more.”

Braun said he withheld release of his movie “due to concerns about copyrights and other legal matters. And even though it’s 14 years old, it’s relevant because the key issue remains: how should we view our town?

“So, the time to release it is now. If not now, when? ‘Artown’ will have its world premiere at the Arts Council, 807 Cottage St. in Susanville at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4 … You are invited. Light refreshments will be provided.

“I’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have, either now or after the show. Call or text me at (530) 251-7821. I look forward to seeing you there.”
