Notice of Intent to adopt a proposed Negative Declaration for the Whiskey Creek Bridge Replacement Project

Here’s a statement from Caltrans regarding a Notice of Intent to adopt a proposed Negative Declaration for the Whiskey Creek Bridge Replacement Project.

What is being planned
The California Department of Transportation is proposing the Whiskey Creek Bridge Emergency Repair Project to replace the Whiskey Creek Bridge, including the bridge deck and superstructure. The project is located on Highway 299 in Shasta County between Post Miles 13.55 and 14.58. The scope of work would include clearing and grubbing of vegetation, and temporarily using trestles and installing concrete barriers during construction.

Bridge construction would include placing an embankment reinforcement geogrid for road widening, widening Highway 299 from 33 feet to 66 feet to include a 15-foot-wide bike and pedestrian path on the bridge portion only, excavating and reconstructing portions of the existing bridge abutments, extending existing drainages and installing new drainage systems, installing new guardrail – Midwest Guardrail System, placement of 0.1-feet of Hot Mix Asphalt and base quantities of fill for widening, conforming earthwork to the new structure, installation of fencing, and construction of a new raised island with stamped concrete at the Whiskeytown Creek Road intersection to better accommodate truck turns. The existing bridge superstructure would be demolished following construction of the new bridge.

What is available
The environmental document for this project is called an Initial Study with Proposed Negative Declaration. The document will be available for viewing by the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday from Oct. 20, 2025 until Nov. 18, 2025 at the Caltrans District 2 office, 1031 Butte St, Redding, California.

The document is also available for review at the Redding Library, located at 1100 Parkview Ave, Redding, California.
