Park Fire 18 percent contained

According to a report from CalFire at 6 a.m. this morning, the Park Fire has burned 389,791 acres in Butte, Plumas, Shasta and Tehama counties and is 18 percent contained.

Numerous firefighting air tankers from across the state are flying suppression missions as part of a massive response that includes 5,779 personnel, 40 helicopters, 519 engines, 180 dozers, 115 water tenders, 112 crews and 77 other assigned.

Status update
Today, the winds were calm, and the thick smoke in the air shaded the fire, thereby reducing the fire activity at the edge closest to the Lassen National Forest. Fire crews and dozers are currently working on enhancing and establishing fuel breaks off Tramway Road and near the community of Mill Creek.

Smoke was heavy today across the Tehama Zone, especially across the northeast portion. Smoke was significantly less over the southern part of the fire. Going into the evening hours, little change in smoke coverage is expected. Overnight, smoke is likely to spread in all directions and may drift south across the Butte Zone by sunrise.

The fire will continue to be active through most of the night.

The weather is expected to become much warmer and drier later this week, with some winds and potential for thunderstorms it is advised to be cautious during this time.

Fire crews are providing structure defense where needed, they are attempting to complete containment lines in some areas and gain a stronghold in the challenging topography while also engaging in mop-up where applicable.

The current acreage is 386,764 total: Butte County: 52,999 acres. Tehama County: 333,765 acres.

Damage Inspection Teams are at 70 percent completion of their assessments. These numbers are updated twice daily. Between both counties, there are 277 destroyed structures and 29 damaged structures.

Tehama County
