Planting the fish for Saturday’s Junior Fishing Derby

Lassen Sportsmen’s Club President Wade Workman, club members and an assortment youngsters gathered in Memorial Park and along the Susan River to plant a whole truck load of fish for Saturday’s Junior Fishing Derby.

37th annual Junior Fishing Derby, sponsored by the Lassen Sportsmen’s Club Schedule
Junior Fishing Derby
— 5:20 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 16 along the Susan River. The Derby is free to kids between the ages of 2 and 15. The Derby ends at 3 p.m. and prizes are awarded. Note: Derby participants should be off the river no later than 2:45 p.m. and in the check-out line by 3 p.m. to qualify for prizes.

Registration — 5 to 9 a.m. Memorial Park. Rods are available to check out.

Free breakfast for kids — A free breakfast for kids is available from 6 to 8:30 a.m., sponsored by WalMart and the employees of WalMart. Adults may purchase breakfast for a donation of $2.

Free lunch for kids — A free lunch for kids is available from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. sponsored by Frosty Mill, Susanville Supermarket, Alpine Beverage, Burger King, Diamond Mountain MiniMart and Grillin’ by Greg Sella. Adults may purchase lunch for a donation of $2.

Derby prizes
Derby prizes will be awarded after the 3 p.m. close of the Derby at Memorial Park. Winners need not be present to win. Door prizes will be drawn at the same time, and winners need to be present to win.

Third place — Tackle boxes donated by Lassen County Federal Credit Union.
