On March 29, 2026, at approximately 03:20 a.m. the Susanville Fire Department responded to a commercial structure fire at the Old SPI Mill site, according to a statement by the Susanville Fire Department posted on Facebook.
Units arrived to find a fully involved structure, Firefighters initiated fire suppression operations and provided exposure protection to any uninvolved offices and equipment on the job site; however, the main structure was a complete loss.
Due to the magnitude of the incident, a mutual aid response was requested and received from multiple fire agencies. Fire personnel from those agencies remained on scene to continue addressing areas of active fire.
Residents of Susanville and the surrounding area should expect to see smoke at the site over the coming days as overhaul operations continue. Patrols will be carried out on the site to monitor conditions.
