Shasta County highway bridge repair project set to begin

Caltrans announced it will begin work on Monday, Sept. 8 on a bridge maintenance project to provide needed repairs on 11 bridges in Shasta County, improving travel and facilitating goods movement. The $4 million project will include polyester concrete overlays, joint seals, abutment work, and other repairs.

Motorists should anticipate construction work at the following bridge locations
Hat Creek Bridge (06-0085) – Highway 89, approximately 4 miles north of Old Station.
Hat Creek Bridge (06-0087) – Highway 89, approximately 1 mile south of Cassel Road.
Cayton Creek Bridge – Highway 89, approximately 3.5 miles north of Burney Falls State Park.
Antlers Undercrossings (northbound and southbound) – Interstate 5, Lakehead.
Lakehead Undercrossings (northbound and southbound) – Interstate 5, Lakehead.
Slate Creek Bridge – Interstate 5 between Lakehead and Pollard Flat.
Sacramento River BOH – Interstate 5 near Gibson.
Creekside Road Undercrossing – Interstate 5, approximately 3.5 miles south of Castella.
Soda Creek Road Undercrossing – Interstate 5 between Castella and Dunsmuir.

For Hat Creek and Cayton Creek Bridge locations on Highway 89, motorists should plan for one-way traffic control with 6-minute delays, Mondays – Fridays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

For Slate Creek Bridge, Sacramento River BOH, and Soda Creek Road Undercrossing, motorists should plan for lane/shoulder/and ramp closures, Mondays – Fridays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

For Antlers, Lakehead, and Creekside Road Undercrossings, motorists should plan for nighttime lane/shoulder/and ramp closures, Sunday nights through Friday mornings between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Drivers are reminded the law requires them to slow down, obey temporary speed limit reductions, and drive carefully in and around construction areas.

McCuen Construction, Inc. is the lead contractor on the project. Work is currently planned for completion by the end of this year but may require a winter suspension depending on weather and operations.
